How much international recognition do the humanities in Germany enjoy? How involved are humanities scholars from Germany in the international exchange of ideas? In what way and to what extent is Germany still a source of and home to international academic discourse in the humanities today? The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung, BMBF) seeks to answer these and other questions together with its guests.
The conference will highlight the achievements and attractivity of the humanities and examine how they compare internationally, taking in a wide range of subjects - from African Studies to Religious Studies. A study on the international positioning of the humanities
in Germany, funded by the BMBF and carried out by the Higher Education Information System (Hochschul-Informations-System, HIS), will provide the basis for these discussions.
A constant change of perspective - the view from Germany outwards and from outside into Germany - connects the items on the agenda. Two lectures will each present two topics; each lecture is followed by two in-depth panel discussions with guests and the audience. (URL: )
